PETRA KALLIO TARU SALONEN: MURROS
Thursday 8.1.2026
15:00 - 19:00
Kirkkopuistikko 18, 65100 Vaasa
The Murros exhibition, which deals with ice and snow, is part of Kallio and Salonen's joint exhibition.
Petra Kallio and Taru Salonen are visual artists and graphic artists from Turku who work with traditional printmaking techniques, utilizing three-dimensionality and various materials.
The exhibition at Makers' Gallery continues the series of joint exhibitions by Kallio and Salonen. The artists reflect on their own perspectives on the relationship between humans and nature in the context of climate change. The Murros exhibition, which deals with the themes of ice and snow, will be shown in changing forms throughout 2026 in Berlin and Helsinki.
In Petra Kallio’s works, the personal and universal visual worlds evoked by Arctic nature symbolically tell stories about humanity’s relationship with itself and its environment. Combining various graphic art techniques into installations and inviting the audience to participate, the works take a stand on climate change and how humans treat their mother earth.
Taru Salonen examines the connection between humans and nature from the perspective of environmental grief. Salonen constructs a dialogue between scale, the inanimate and the animate, state of being and emotion. The disappearing snow and ice encapsulate the imagery of human grief. The installation Weeping Nature is Salonen's visual interpretation of a lament. The work is a circle of individual and collective grief that the viewer can step into.
